Round four of the 2020 Summit Racing Equipment American Modified Series took place Thursday night at Farmer City Raceway in Farmer City, IL. It turned into a yearly tradition for the series to visit the Land of Lincoln for the Labor Day weekend. Thursday night kicked off the first of three nights of racing for the tour.

Things got underway with SPEC Racing Engines qualifying. Out of 32 cars to take on the clock it was Mike McKinney who put down the fastest lap with a time of 14.075 seconds. This set the field for four heat races that would line the field up for the 25 lap main event to happen later in the evening.

Hypercoils heat race one got the racing action underway on Thursday night. Clinton, IL Kyle Hammer recovered from an early spin to win the heat race over Alan Stipp. Mike Harrison came home third and Dustin King grabbed the final transfer spot.

In the second heat race presented by Willy’s Carb & Dyno defending series champ Tyler Nicely came home with the heat race win by holding off Nick Hoffman. Allen Weisser and former Nascar driver David Stremme also finished in transfer positions.

In the Fast Shafts sponsored heat race three Mike McKinney kept up his Farmer City dominance with his 10th heat race win of the year on the quarter-mile oval. Jeff Leka came across the line in second with Victor Lee and Steven Brooks also earning spots in the top four that moved them on to the main event.

Final heat race of the night presented by AERO Wheels was a battle between Danny Schwartz and Kenny Wallace. Wallace attempted to get around Danny but Schwartz was able to hold on and get the race win. Wallace would finish runner up and Ray Bollinger and Tommy Sheppard would also advanced to the feature event.

It took a B-Main to set the remaining field for the 25-lap main event. Jacob Rexing who started deep in the field came from seventh to win the consolation event. Farmer City regular Troy Dodson finished runner up. Keith Smith, Dustin Bruce & Kasey Schrock were the remaining cars who moved on to the A-main. Provisionals went to Mark Cole, Christopher Cole & Don Kiger.

Starting on the pole Mike McKinney survived every restart to win the weekend opening event at Farmer City Raceway. Early on Kyle Hammer flexed his muscles and ran in the runner up spot trying to chase down McKinney from Plainfield, IL. Tyler Nicely and Jeff Leka also ran up in the top three through the first half of the feature event. None of them were able to mount a charge to overtake McKinney. In the closing laps Nick Hoffman got to the runner up spot but as Mike maneuvered lap traffic he was able to keep Hoffman at bay and win his ninth win of the year at the Farmer City bullring.

Mike had to thank his dad in victory lane who has spend the entire week prepping the car for the big money weekend across the Land of Lincoln. Mike has made comments about his struggle to win at Farmer City in the past. Last year he got his first win at Farmer City and now every time he shows up you can almost write his name on the check. Mike picked up the $1,500 payday and will look for the Farmer City 74 sweep tonight as they go for $2,500 to win.
