Charleston, IL - The Dirtcar Stock Car Fall Nationals took place for the sixth time Saturday night at Charleston Speedway. The night started off with 43 cars who signed in for the Midwest Stock Car Tour season finale which was also the final night of UMP National points.

Jason Maier came into the final night of points with a slim 8 point advantage over second place Terry Reed. The duo came in with 13 feature wins a piece on the season and 7 runner up finishes. On the Midwest Stock Car Tour two-time and defending champ Jerrad Krick held a 14 point lead over Darrell Dick heading to Charleston Saturday night. Between the $10,000 in purse money, a national title and the MSCT title it was sure to be an exciting night.

The night started off with Jim Ransom tying the track record in qualifying. Jim turned a lap of 14.050 seconds. Qualifying set up 5 heat races that would lock in the top 3 finishers to the 40 lap $2,000 to win feature event.

In heat race #1 it was all Jeremy Nichols from the drop of the green flag. Fast qualifier Jim Ransom was running second before a late race spin took him out of a transfer spot. This opened the door for Galesburg, IL Robert Cottom and Don Hilleary to nab the other two transfer spots to the main event.

Heat race #2 was similar to heat one as Jason Maier started out front and held on to win. He held off MSCT points leader Jerrad Krick and Pete Odell took the final transfer spot.

In heat race #3 we saw last year's Fall Nationals winner Matt Maier pick up the heat race victory. This was Matt's only race of 2019, he wheeled the #91 Larry Long entry for the evening. Charleston, IL driver Josh Griffith and Megan Erwin took the other top 3 spots to transfer on.

Heat race #4 was the most entertaining of the night as drivers battled intensely for the top 3 spots. In the end it was Timmy Dick who pulled off the win. Kyle Anderson was running second and in a transfer spot until he spun in the closing laps. This allowed Nick Macklin and National Points contender Terry Reed to capture the next two spots into the feature event.

The final heat race of the night went to John Shick. David Hurst and Scott Hufford made up the top three that moved on to the $2,000 to win feature event.

We had 15 spots in the feature set but it would take two B-mains to set the remainder of the field. In B-Main #1 Andy Zahnd from White Heath, IL ran away with the lead and won the 10 lap event. Nick Miller and MSCT Wildgraphix Rookie of the Year points leader Lance Evans made up the top 3 that moved on to main event.

B-Main #2 was action packed as drivers battled for the remaining 3 starting spots in the biggest race of the year for the Stock Car class in Illinois. After issues in his heat race Jim Ransom came from the back of the B-Main to win and transfer to the show. This race was slowed many times for yellow's as attrition plagued the final preliminary event. When the dust settled it was Jeff Hartzell and Shawn Ziemer who took the final starting spots for the Fall Nationals. Darrell Dick took the UMP points provisional to round out the 22 car starting field.

Jeremy Nichols started on pole and never looked back as he led wire to wire in the 40 lap feature event. Jeremy was the defending UMP Dirtcar National Champion and he showed why Saturday night. Even with several yellow flags it did not help anyone who tried to chase down Jeremy. Jason Maier was the closest competitor coming home second and clinching the 2019 UMP Dirtcar National title. Terry Reed came home third. Jerrrad Krick despite a disappointing 13th place finish held on to win the MSCT champonship by 8 points over Nick Macklin.

In victory lane Jeremy Nichols thanked his friend Rudy Zaragoza for letting him wheel his car. He also praised National points leader runner up Terry Reed for his run in his Nichols chassis his ran in 2019. It was the first time Jeremy had one the Fall Nationals at Charleston Speedway. Jeremy has been a very successful Stock Car driver and hinted in post race interviews that he looks to move up in the ranks next year. Jeremy was seen behind the wheel of a modified on a few occasions in 2019.

Jason Maier thanked his crew and especially his bother Matt for helping out in the final weeks as he chased the title. Without them I couldn't have got it done. A gracious Terry Reed took home runner up honors on the year in National point standings. He congratulated Jason on the title and thanked his crew and everyone who made his 2019 successful.
