Canadian driver Ricky Weiss stopped the dominance of Bobby Pierce by taking the Saturday afternoon Matinee in the desert. Ricky Weiss started in the third position but it didn't take long for Ricky to go to the front. By lap 8 Ricky took the lead from Brandon Sheppard who started on pole in the Saturday afternoon make up event. Bobby Pierce who had won the first three events started fifth and made a strong move on the opening lap to take 2nd but could not hang on and slide back to fifth in the closing laps. Pierce's dream ended for the Quarter of a Million Keyser Manufacturing Bonus but he still has a shot to pocket either $25k or $100k if he could win 1 or both the remaining events. Weiss is no stranger to victory lane as he visited Hoker Trucking victory lane on a couple of occasions last year.

The Sweet-Bloomquist Chassis of Weiss is brand new and they are starting to get the thing dialed in and he could be a threat the rest this weekend. Weiss turned heads last year with a couple wins in the Wild West Shootout mini-series and also picked up a big win in the North-South 100 at Florence Speedway pocketing $50,000 payday. Brandon Sheppard finished runner up in his family owned B5 Rocket Chassis. Chris Simpson rounded out the podium rebounding from a tough Friday night. Chase Junghans finished fourth.

Bobby Pierce did set overall fast time with a lap of 14.614. Brandon Sheppard, Kyle Beard, Ricky Weiss and Scott Bloomquist were your heat winners. There was no mirage in the desert, yes Scott Bloomquist was spotted driving his race car down the Arizona highway just minutes before he won his afternoon heat race. With Scott there is always an interesting story line. DJ Shannon and Dereck Ramirez took home the double Modified features.

Action will resume shortly at FK Rod Ends Arizona Speedway for part two of the Saturday doubleheader. Will Ricky Weiss show the same speed when the sun goes down in the desert or will Bobby Pierce return to victory lane in search of adding to that bonus. Tune in to our friends at DirtonDirt.com to see every lap of action Saturday night.
